Core Differences and Design:

  • The BMW SkyTop: A classic two-seater targa with a removable roof and a dramatic, flowing rear deck. It leans into traditional open-air roadster styling.
  • The BMW SpeedTop: An extreme shooting brake or controversial style. It features a long, rakish sloping roofline, no rear seats, and a specialized gradient paint scheme that fades from dark maroon to silver.
  • Shared DNA: Both cars feature BMW's "shark nose," the thinnest headlights ever produced by the brand, and flush, winglet-style door handles embedded into the bodywork.
Performance and Shared Features:

  • Engine: Both cars are powered by BMW’s ferocious 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine (the S63), producing around 625 horsepower.
  • Speed: The SkyTop, for example, sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds.
  • Interiors: The cabins are highly bespoke, boasting heavy leather accents, crystal details, and custom, made-to-measure luggage sets.
  • Availability and Rarity:
Both vehicles are incredibly rare and were built for top-tier collectors. Production numbers are strictly capped at 50 for the Skytop and 70 for the Speedtop. Due to homologation costs, neither model is officially sold in the United States.
For a deeper visual dive into the stunning shooting-brake design of the SpeedTop, including its gradient paintwork and custom luggage:

  • SkyTop: 50 units produced (currently sold out).
  • SpeedTop: 70 units produced.
  • Market Availability: Neither car is officially slated for the US market due to homologation costs, though some may find their way to American collectors under show-and-display exemptions.
